The end of this school year fast approaches. The 4th Grade Garden club members gathered in the garden to relax and just enjoy the garden. Popsicle made of vegetables and fruit juices are enjoyed by the group as well and carrots they picked, washed and cut up to share. Thank you members for all your hard work!
Vintage was the fortunate recipient of a wonderful $2000 grant in early 2017 from Whole Foods Foundation thanks to the work of parent Mrs. S. Dharie, with the support of Vintage staff, Mrs. D. Stone, Mrs. Z. Buck, and Mrs. Mourao. The grant supports schools to inspire students to improve their nutrition and to get excited about fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and other nutritional foods.
As part of the Whole Foods grant, Monday, May 22 and Tuesday, May 23, Ms. Maria Dimakos of Whole Foods Markets stopped by bringing the makings for vegetable wraps to share with Vintage's 4th Grade Garden Club, plus Mrs. Buck's and Mrs. Apostolu's classes. Students assembled onto a cabbage or lettuce leaf - yummy guacamole, crispy shredded carrots, fun squash noodles, healthy broccoli slaw, spicy mango salsa, crunchy tortilla chips, and sweet cherry tomatoes. For many students, some of these items they hadn't tasted before. Judging by the students' positive reactions, we think they will be more adventurous and open to trying different, healthy foods.
Vintage's 4th Grade Garden Club will use a digital camera, computer, and/or an iPad and to photograph and journal what is happening on campus regarding gardening, school beautification, nature and more.
