Happy New Years! The Fourth Grade Garden Club is back from winter break. We met at 10:15 recess on this chilly Friday. We have 48 degree weather according to our weather sensor atop our auditorium. This is pretty cold for us here in North Hills. What a beautiful day to be in the garden. Such fluffy winter clouds in the clear blue sky.
We took a walk around our garden to see how it held up while we were gone for the past three weeks. We stopped by the Senses Garden and had fun smelling and touching the plants. Near by was Society Garlic plant which smells like garlic but is growing happily and blooming with lovely purple flowers. We also discovered that one of the bearded Irises has a yellow bloom. We will have to keep an eye on it this coming week to see if it opens. We then pulled out the rakes and hoes and worked on cleaning up the garden paths and beds. We left leaves in the flower beds to help keep the flowers warm. We are expecting freezing weather at night tonight. Burrr. Our tomatoes plants are looking a bit distressed by the cold but our lettuce and califlower are looking good.
Vintage's 4th Grade Garden Club will use a digital camera, computer, and/or an iPad and to photograph and journal what is happening on campus regarding gardening, school beautification, nature and more.
